March has been a busy month this years. Consignment inquiries are up over 100% over this time last year and we are very close to being at full capacity. Next week we will be accepting 1 new consignment horses with one arriving Tuesday afternoon. The new arrival has incredible breeding and I will pre-post information on this blog.
Buyer’s inquiries and showings are also up significantly. March sales were 3 lower level horse.
In the broader markets the number of horses for sale continues to climb dramatically. Pricing and quality is all over the map with little rhyme or reason. Generally speaking the pricing we are seeing is overly optimistic. Accurately priced horses are out there but they are like finding needles in haystacks.
Reports from prospective buyers haven’t changed that much. They are frustrated with making trips to see horses that were not at all what they expected.
Advice for sellers: Be honest up front. If your gut tells you this is probably not the right horse for this person talk it over so they can make an informed decision on whether or not to incur the expense. Remember that your time is valuable too and word travels fast if wrongly or rightly someone feels you misrepresented your horse. Sellers who intend to market their own horses in this economy should consider looking for actual sold pricing not listing prices. Another way is honestly look at the horse as if you didn’t know it and you where looking at it to buy.
